Where it came from
Inti, Seneschal of the Sun was released in late 2023 as part of the Magic: The Gathering expansion The Lost Caverns of Ixalan. The set explores a subterranean world inspired by Mesoamerican cultures, focusing on themes of exploration, ancient deities, and the struggle between factions vying for the power of the sun. The character Inti represents the Ojer-aligned forces, serving as a tactical leader and enabler within the set's red-color identity of impulse-driven card advantage.
The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who utilized a vivid color palette and dynamic posture to convey Inti's role as a protector and guide. The design focuses on the synergy between discarding and aggressive play, a mechanical space that has been historically significant in competitive Magic formats. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its efficiency and its ability to act as a potent engine in aggressive and mid-range decks, earning a place in various constructed formats.
