Incinerate

Incinerate was originally introduced in the 1996 Mirage expansion as a staple red removal spell, serving as a more efficient successor to Lightning Bolt. By the time the 1998 World Championship Decks were released, the card had become a cornerstone of competitive play due to its ability to prevent creature regeneration, which effectively countered many popular strategies of the era. These decks were produced as exact replicas of the top-performing decks from the 1998 World Championship, allowing players to own and experience the specific configurations used by professional competitors.

The artwork for this version was provided by Brian Snõddy, whose visceral, high-contrast style defined much of the aesthetic for red-aligned cards during this period. Snõddy’s illustration focuses on the raw, destructive nature of the spell, utilizing stark lighting to emphasize the heat and intensity of the flame. The 1998 World Championship printing is visually distinct from standard expansions, featuring gold-bordered edges and a facsimile signature of the professional player who used the deck in competition, marking it as a historical artifact of tournament play.
