Where it came from
Increasing Devotion is a sorcery card originally printed in the Dark Ascension expansion in 2012, later appearing in the Commander 2020 preconstructed deck titled Symbiotic Swarm. The card was designed to support the 'flashback' mechanic, allowing players to cast it from their graveyard for a higher cost to create an even larger army of human tokens. This iteration reflects the set's focus on mechanics that reward players for graveyard interaction and creature-heavy strategies.
The artwork for this specific version maintains the thematic intensity of the original, illustrating the gathering of a massive host of soldiers. Designed to be a mid-to-late game stabilizer, the card was well-received by players looking to flood the battlefield with tokens in white-aligned decks. Its inclusion in Commander 2020 served to provide players with a reliable, scalable board-presence tool that remains a staple for token-focused strategies in the Commander format.
