Where it came from
Increasing Devotion is a sorcery card originally released in the 2012 Magic: The Gathering expansion Dark Ascension, later reprinted as part of the 2016 Duel Decks: Blessed vs. Cursed. The card was designed to embody the thematic conflict between the forces of humanity and the supernatural horrors of the Innistrad plane. Its mechanics, which focus on token generation and the graveyard-based flashback ability, reflect the set's emphasis on resilience and the persistence of the human spirit against overwhelming darkness.
The artwork for the card was created by illustrator Eric Deschamps, who captured a poignant scene of faith and mobilization. By focusing on the visual language of soldiers rising to answer a call, the illustration serves to reinforce the flavor of the card's name, depicting a desperate, escalating surge of support. Upon its release, it became a notable staple in limited and casual play, praised for its utility in grindy, board-heavy game states.
