Where it came from
Infernal Tutor was first released in the 2006 Dissension set, representing the darker, corruptive magic of the Rakdos Cult on the plane of Ravnica. The card mechanics, specifically the 'hellbent' keyword, reflect the high-risk, high-reward playstyle of the cult, rewarding players who have emptied their hands of resources. The Ravnica Remastered version features updated card frames and premium treatments designed to highlight the game's rich aesthetic history for veteran collectors.
The artwork, originally commissioned for the card's debut and utilized in subsequent reprints, captures the chaotic and sinister essence of the Rakdos guild. By integrating thematic elements of blood and dark pacts, the illustration serves as a visual bridge between the card's mechanical utility and the lore of the Ravnica setting. Its enduring popularity in competitive formats stems from its efficient ability to tutor for essential cards, solidifying its status as a staple for black-aligned decks.
