Where it came from
Infest was originally printed in the Urza's Destiny expansion in 1999, but this specific iteration appeared in the 2016 set Conspiracy: Take the Crown. The set was designed by Wizards of the Coast specifically for multiplayer draft formats, emphasizing political maneuvering and chaotic game states. Infest serves as a classic board-clearing tool in Magic: The Gathering, providing a low-cost, symmetrical effect that punishes decks relying on swarms of small creatures.
The artwork for this version was commissioned from artist Bastien L. Deharme. Known for a dark, atmospheric style, Deharme’s illustration depicts a festering magical blight, aligning with the card's function as a necrotic sweep. Within the context of the Conspiracy set, cards like Infest were intentionally included to act as checks against aggressive draft strategies, ensuring that players who built wide creature bases had to account for potential resets during the game.
