Where it came from
Infest first appeared as a rare card in the Urza's Legacy expansion in 1999, designed as a black-aligned board wipe that effectively manages low-toughness creatures. Its inclusion in the Commander 2013 'Power Hungry' deck marked a return for the card, providing a functional reprint for players in the multiplayer format who needed a way to sweep the board of small utility tokens or aggressive early-game threats.
The art for this iteration maintains the grim, visceral aesthetic associated with black mana in Magic: The Gathering. While the card is a standard utility piece rather than a flagship design, it serves as a staple example of the '-N/-N' effect, a core design space that distinguishes black removal from red damage-based board wipes, which generally struggle against protection from red or specific damage-prevention effects.
