Where it came from
Informed Inkwright was introduced in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering set Secrets of Strixhaven, a supplemental release themed around the mystical academy of Strixhaven. The card embodies the aesthetic of the Silverquill college, which focuses on the magic of words, light, and shadow. It was designed to function within the set's limited environment, reflecting the scholarly yet competitive nature of the university students tasked with chronicling arcane secrets.
The card features illustration by Igor Kieryluk, who captured the stoic, focused demeanor of a scribe channeling magical energy through an ink-filled quill. His design choices emphasize the contrast between the sharp, ink-blotted lines of the character's work and the ethereal glow of the spells being transcribed. Upon release, the card was received as a functional, atmospheric piece of world-building that successfully translated the lore of a magical university into the tactile medium of a collectible trading card.
