Where it came from
The Inkling Mascot card was released in 2021 as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It represents one of the magical creature companions associated with the Prismari college, which emphasizes artistic expression and elemental performance. The card functions as a token generator, allowing players to conjure 2/1 flying creature tokens that embody the ink-based magical aesthetic central to the Strixhaven campus.
The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Caio Monteiro, who employed a vibrant, flowing style to capture the fluid, ethereal nature of the Inkling creatures. In the game's lore, Inklings are sentient constructs brought to life by magic, often serving as assistants or artistic manifestations for the university's students. Upon release, the card was received as a versatile utility piece in various formats, particularly praised for its synergy within decks that rely on creature-based battlefield pressure.
