Where it came from
Inquisitor Greyfax was introduced as a legendary creature card in the Warhammer 40,000 Commander set, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2022. This set marked a significant expansion of the Magic: The Gathering Universes Beyond initiative, designed to integrate the grimdark lore of Games Workshop’s tabletop wargame into the mechanics of Magic. The card features art by Igor Kieryluk, who captured the character’s signature stern aesthetic, characterized by her iconic power armor, psychocannon, and imposing inquisitorial mask.
Within the context of the game, Greyfax represents the Ordo Hereticus, reflecting her role as a relentless hunter of witches and rogue psykers in the Imperium of Man. The card's design prioritizes her status as a manipulator of the battlefield, utilizing mechanics that echo her ability to suppress enemies and control the flow of combat. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its thematic accuracy, offering a high-utility commander option that faithfully translated her role as a rigid guardian of Imperial orthodoxy into a functional game piece.
