Where it came from
Inquisitor Greyfax was introduced as part of the Warhammer 40,000 Commander decks for Magic: The Gathering, released in 2022. Designed to bridge the thematic gap between Games Workshop’s grimdark science fiction universe and Wizards of the Coast’s trading card game, the card represents a powerful Inquisitor of the Ordo Hereticus. The character is a long-standing figure in Warhammer lore, known for her staunch zealotry and mastery over psychic suppression, which the card mechanics reflect through her ability to tap opponent's creatures and investigate.
The card features artwork commissioned specifically for this crossover, aiming to capture the aesthetic of the Imperium of Man with high-contrast, atmospheric detail characteristic of the 40k visual style. Upon release, the card was well-received by players for its synergy with token-based strategies and its thematic loyalty to the source material. It serves as a prominent example of the Universes Beyond initiative, which integrates iconic intellectual properties into the mechanically diverse landscape of Commander.
