Where it came from
The Insect token, numbered 13 in the Modern Horizons 2 token set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2021. It was specifically produced to accompany cards from the Modern Horizons 2 expansion that generate Insect creature tokens, such as Chatterfang, Squirrel General or various green-aligned spells. These tokens are designed to provide physical utility for players, serving as a standardized visual reference for board states during competitive or casual gameplay.
The artwork for this token adheres to the distinct, high-fantasy aesthetic established for the Modern Horizons series, which blends nostalgic Magic: The Gathering tropes with modern digital illustration techniques. The design prioritizes clarity for gameplay, ensuring that the token's stats and creature type are easily identifiable across the table. It was received as a standard utility piece, prized by collectors and players for its specific contribution to the set's thematic mechanical ecosystem.
