Provenance

Where it came from

The Insect token, identified as collector number 22, was released as part of the auxiliary token set for the Duskmourn: House of Horror expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 2024. These tokens were designed to support specific mechanical archetypes introduced in the set, where players generate 1/1 Insect creature tokens as a secondary effect of playing cards themed around the horror-house aesthetic of the Duskmourn plane.

The art direction for the Duskmourn token set reflects the set's overarching theme of 1980s-inspired supernatural horror and claustrophobic domestic dread. The illustrations were created to be evocative and unsettling, utilizing a muted, eerie color palette that distinguishes them from the more traditional high-fantasy aesthetic often found in standard Magic: The Gathering token cycles.
