Insect

The Marvel Super Heroes Tokens were released in the mid-1990s as a promotional collectible, often distributed through vending machines or as inserts with snacks and confectionery products. These items were designed to capitalize on the immense popularity of the Marvel Universe during an era of significant expansion for the brand in media and merchandising. The set focused on distilling complex comic book characters into small, durable tokens that could be easily traded or stored by younger fans.

The design of the Insect token—featuring the character known as Ant-Man—relies on the iconic aesthetic associated with the character's mid-century origins, updated for the bolder, high-contrast printing styles common in nineties promotional items. The illustration captures the character's distinct helmet design, intended to emphasize his ability to communicate with and command insects. While the tokens were considered minor items compared to traditional trading cards, they achieved a cult following for their portability and the completionist appeal of the full Marvel catalog.
