Where it came from
Inti, Seneschal of the Sun was released in late 2023 as part of the Magic: The Gathering expansion The Lost Caverns of Ixalan. The set draws heavy inspiration from Mesoamerican mythology, casting a subterranean, prehistoric world where various factions vie for power. The character represents the Sun Empire, a civilization characterized by its devotion to the sun and its historical interactions with dinosaurs, reflecting the set's central themes of exploration and ancient conflict.
The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Fajareka Setiawan, who utilized a vivid color palette to emphasize the character’s solar-themed abilities and regal status. Mechanically, the card was designed to support aggressive, synergy-heavy playstyles by allowing players to discard cards to gain temporary power boosts and impulse draws. It was well-received by players for its efficiency and its contribution to the resilience of red-based strategies within the Commander and Standard formats.
