Where it came from
Inti, Seneschal of the Sun was released in 2023 as part of The Lost Caverns of Ixalan expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card represents a key character within the set’s narrative, which focuses on the subterranean world beneath the plane of Ixalan. It was designed to support aggressive red strategies by facilitating card cycling and providing a power-boosting ability that rewards discarding cards.
The artwork for this promotional version, designated 156p, showcases a distinct illustrative style consistent with the supplemental release structure of the set. Wizards of the Coast utilized this card to explore themes of Mesoamerican-inspired aesthetics, a signature visual identity for the Ixalan block. Upon its release, the card was received as a versatile tool for competitive play, particularly in formats like Pioneer and Commander, where its ability to generate card advantage from the graveyard proved highly efficient.
