Where it came from
Jadzi, Steward of Fate was released as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 2021. Designed to showcase the magical scholarship of the Prismari and Quandrix colleges, this double-faced card represents the intersection of high-level spellcasting and tactical flexibility. It serves as a narrative anchor for the set, depicting a prestigious figure within the university who commands the flow of magical energy through both her presence as a creature and her utility as an instant spell.
The artwork for Jadzi reflects the distinct aesthetic identity of the Strixhaven plane, emphasizing a scholarly, academic tone paired with fantastical arcane energy. By utilizing the double-faced card mechanic, the design allows players to choose between a powerful recurring threat or an immediate beneficial effect. The card was well-received by the player base for its complexity and versatility, particularly among those who favor commander and control-oriented strategies that require thoughtful resource management.
