Where it came from
Jadzi, Oracle of Arcavios was introduced in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering set Strixhaven: School of Mages, a top-down design themed around a magical university. The card represents the head librarian of the Prismari college, designed to embody the set's focus on casting multiple spells and harnessing the intersection of art and elemental magic. As a double-faced card, it mechanically reflects the scholarly pursuit of knowledge, transitioning from a researcher to the magical catalyst she uncovers.
The artwork, illustrated by Magali Villeneuve, captures the character's ethereal and scholarly essence, emphasizing her connection to the ancient archives of Strixhaven. The design intent behind Jadzi was to provide a complex engine for spellslinger archetypes in the Commander format, where she has been well received for her high-mana, high-reward ceiling. Her mechanical identity is centered on the 'Magecraft' keyword, which rewards players for interacting with instants and sorceries, consistent with the academic flavor of the Strixhaven campus.
