Where it came from
Joined Researchers // Secret Rendezvous is a double-faced card released in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering set Secrets of Strixhaven, which served as a subset of the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion. The card was designed to mechanically represent the flavor of the Quandrix College, focusing on the intersection of mathematics and nature, while utilizing the set's signature modal double-faced card mechanic to provide players with versatile utility during gameplay.
The card features artwork by illustrator Anna Steinbauer, who is known for her work across several Magic: The Gathering sets. In this piece, she aimed to capture the collaborative and intellectual atmosphere of Strixhaven, depicting students engaged in research and clandestine study. Upon release, the card was received as a flavorful addition to the set's broader exploration of academy life and spellcasting.
