Where it came from
Karazikar, the Eye Tyrant was originally printed in the Adventures in the Forgotten Realms set, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2021 as part of a landmark collaboration between Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons. The card was designed to embody the iconic nature of an Eye Tyrant, or Beholder, focusing on mechanics that force opponents to attack one another, reflecting the creature's manipulative and paranoid nature in tabletop lore.
The artwork was commissioned from illustrator Ekaterina Burmak, who focused on capturing the creature's menacing gaze and complex anatomy. Following its initial debut, the card was added to The List, a curated selection of cards from throughout Magic's history that appear in Set Boosters. Its inclusion in The List with the collector number AFC-49 identifies it as a direct reprint associated with the initial expansion's thematic identity.
