Where it came from
Karazikar, the Eye Tyrant was released in 2021 as part of the Magic: The Gathering expansion Adventures in the Forgotten Realms. This set marked the first full crossover between the collectible card game and the iconic Dungeons & Dragons tabletop role-playing system, aiming to bring the flavor of iconic monsters into the Commander format.
The character design captures the essence of a classic Dungeons & Dragons beholder, emphasizing the creature's manipulative and chaotic nature. The artwork, credited to illustrator Alexander Mokhov, depicts the tyrant floating amidst a dark, subterranean lair, utilizing high-contrast lighting to highlight the central eye and the unsettling anatomical details characteristic of the species.
