Where it came from
Karazikar, the Eye Tyrant first appeared in the Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms expansion for Magic: The Gathering, released in 2021. This card represents a powerful Beholder, a classic creature type central to D&D lore, designed as a legendary creature to facilitate multiplayer politics and aggressive, incentivized combat mechanics. The card was created to bring the tactical, flavorful depth of tabletop roleplaying into the card game's engine.
The Secret Lair version, designated as collector number 1791, features an alternate artistic treatment specifically crafted to celebrate the aesthetic of the D&D universe. These drop series are curated by Wizards of the Coast to offer collectors unique, stylized versions of established cards, often utilizing guest artists to provide a fresh visual perspective on iconic characters. This specific iteration was well-received by fans of the Commander format who favor highly thematic deck building.
