Where it came from
Killer Service was released as part of the Streets of New Capenna Commander set in 2022. The card was designed to reflect the art deco-inspired, noir-drenched aesthetic of New Capenna, a plane defined by its organized crime families and Prohibition-era sensibilities. The set drew heavily from 1920s cityscapes and syndicate culture, placing mechanics and flavor text within the context of high-stakes gang rivalries.
The card features artwork by Wisnu Tan, who captured the menacing, theatrical atmosphere of the set's supernatural mobsters. Within the game, the card functions as an enchantment that synergizes with sacrificial playstyles, reinforcing the theme of disposable henchmen serving an unforgiving master. Upon its release, it was well-received by players seeking to optimize their token-generation strategies in Commander format, appreciated for both its mechanical utility and its distinct aesthetic contribution to the New Capenna expansion.
