Where it came from
The Kormus Bell first appeared in the Alpha set of Magic: The Gathering in 1993, conceptualized by Richard Garfield as a unique artifact that transforms Swamps into creatures. This 30th Anniversary Edition printing serves as a commemorative re-release, honoring the game's long-standing legacy and its evolution within the hobbyist community. It reflects the early, experimental design philosophy of the game, where artifacts often had whimsical yet disruptive effects on the board state.
The original artwork by Quinton Hoover is widely celebrated for its intricate detail and fantastical style, which helped define the visual language of the game's nascent years. This edition retains that iconic illustration, maintaining the historical aesthetic while updating the card frame and card back to distinguish it from vintage printings. Upon its debut in the 30th Anniversary collection, the card was received as a nostalgic artifact for long-term players and collectors interested in preserving the history of early card mechanics.
