Kura, the Boundless Sky

Kura, the Boundless Sky was released in 2022 as part of the Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty set, representing a reimagined version of the legendary Dragon Spirits from the original 2004 Kamigawa block. The design was intended to blend traditional Japanese folklore with a futuristic, cyberpunk aesthetic, reflecting the plane’s transformation into a high-tech society. This specific promo version, identified by collector number 200p, features a unique art treatment that showcases the character in a stylized, modern light consistent with the set's signature aesthetic.

The card was illustrated by Johannes Voss, a long-standing contributor to the game known for his expressive and emotive fantasy art. Voss designed Kura to evoke a sense of majestic scale and fluid, elemental power, emphasizing the creature's status as a guardian of the sky. Upon release, the card and its associated promo variants were well-received by the player community for both their gameplay utility in green-aligned decks and their striking visual departure from the earlier, more traditional depiction of Kamigawa’s spirits.
