Where it came from
The Launch Party card was released in 2012 as part of the Return to Ravnica expansion for Magic: The Gathering. It was distributed specifically at local game store launch events, serving as a commemorative piece for players participating in the set's release weekend. This card was designed to celebrate the return to the fan-favorite plane of Ravnica, a cityscape-covered world defined by its ten distinct political guilds.
The card features artwork by Johannes Voss, who captured the chaotic, festive atmosphere of a Ravnican celebration. His design utilized the set's signature vibrant color palettes and architectural aesthetics to ground the image within the lore of the Izzet League and other guilds. It was well received by the player community as an accessible, thematic souvenir that highlighted the immersive world-building characteristic of Wizards of the Coast's creative direction during this era.
