Where it came from
Launch Party is an uncommon black spell featured in the 2020 Magic: The Gathering set Jumpstart. The set was designed as a unique, self-contained experience intended to introduce new players to the game by combining two randomized themed packs into a complete deck. The card itself occupies a utilitarian role within the format, providing a cost-effective removal option that reinforces the aggressive, thematic nature of the black-aligned packets.
The card features artwork by illustrator Mathias Kollros, who has contributed extensively to the visual language of the game. The aesthetic approach aligns with the high-fantasy gothic tone often associated with black-mana spells, emphasizing dark, atmospheric imagery. Upon its release, Jumpstart was generally well-received for its innovative draft-style gameplay, with individual cards like Launch Party functioning as reliable staples for both the intended casual play environment and as affordable additions to broader constructed collections.
