Lifetap

Lifetap is a classic enchantment originally introduced in the 1994 Legends expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Its design captures the flavor of a symbiotic relationship with nature, rewarding the player for their opponent's reliance on green mana. The card belongs to a cycle of color-hoser enchantments that were characteristic of early Magic design, focusing on punishing specific color identities during a time when the game's color pie was still being actively defined and balanced.

This specific printing appears in Mystery Booster 2, a product designed as a curated archive of Magic's extensive history. By including cards like Lifetap, Wizards of the Coast allows players to engage with the aesthetic and mechanical sensibilities of the mid-1990s. The artwork, while updated or reprinted according to the set's parameters, retains the original intent of illustrating the visceral, restorative connection between life and the forces of the forest, providing a bridge between the game's vintage roots and modern play environments.
