Where it came from
Lifetap was originally released in the 1994 Magic: The Gathering core set, intended to explore the mechanics of life-gain interactions within the green color identity. Its design reflects the early experimental nature of the game, where enchantment cards were frequently used to create passive, triggered effects that rewarded players for specific board states or opponent actions.
The Summer Magic version, often referred to as the Edgar set, occupies a unique place in history as a highly limited printing intended to correct errors found in the Revised Edition. Because of a distribution mishap, the vast majority of this print run was destroyed, leaving only a small number of cards to enter private collections. The card features the distinct, austere aesthetic typical of the game's initial illustrators, focusing on clear, functional fantasy art that defines the early era of the collectible card game market.
