Lifetap

Lifetap was originally released in the 1994 Mirage expansion for Magic: The Gathering, designed by Bill Rose to capitalize on the set's focus on magical enchantment and nature-based mechanics. As a green enchantment, it serves as a utility piece that rewards the player for each land played by an opponent, reflecting the color's thematic connection to land and mana manipulation. The original artwork by Quinton Hoover utilized a distinct, flowing style that defined the aesthetic of mid-nineties Magic sets, blending fantastical elements with organic, swirling motifs.

The 30th Anniversary Edition, released in 2022, is a commemorative non-tournament-legal print run designed to celebrate three decades of the game. These cards feature a modern card frame and a commemorative back, maintaining the original illustrations to preserve the historical artistic integrity of the game's evolution. While the cards serve primarily as collector's items rather than functional game pieces, they are prized for their high-quality card stock and the inclusion of the iconic original art by Hoover, serving as a direct visual link to the game's foundational era.
