Provenance

Where it came from

Lure was originally printed in the Alpha set of Magic: The Gathering in 1993, designed by Richard Garfield to facilitate combat interactions by forcing all of an opponent's creatures to block the affected unit. Its inclusion in the 2003 Eighth Edition marked a significant milestone as the first core set to feature a new, modern card frame, intended to improve legibility and provide a consistent visual aesthetic for the game's tenth anniversary.

The Eighth Edition printing features artwork by Quinton Hoover, a prolific early contributor whose distinct, emotive illustrative style defined much of the game's foundational imagery. While mechanical updates in later expansions eventually shifted the way Lure functions within the rules, its presence in the core set solidified its status as a quintessential green-aligned spell for limited play formats, often utilized by players to break board stalls.
