Provenance

Where it came from

Lure was originally released in the Alpha set in 1993, representing the classic green mechanic that forces creatures to attack the caster's target. By the time of the Seventh Edition, published in 2001, the card had become a staple of green's aggressive strategy. This iteration marked the first time the card featured a white border, consistent with the set's role as a core product designed to introduce foundational mechanics to a new generation of players.

The Seventh Edition version of Lure features art by Anson Maddocks, who was one of the original illustrators for the game. His illustration captures the predatory and hypnotic nature of the spell, staying true to the visual language established in the game's earliest days. While the card's mechanics are straightforward, the art serves as a notable example of the transition of classic imagery into the modernized design aesthetic of the early 2000s core sets.
