Provenance

Where it came from

Lure was originally printed in the Alpha set of Magic: The Gathering in 1993, designed by Richard Garfield to introduce a unique tactical mechanic to the game. By forcing all of an opponent's creatures to block the enchanted target, the card created a high-risk, high-reward scenario that emphasized the importance of board control and creature strength within the game's early ecosystem.

The version from the Fifth Edition, released in 1997, features the iconic artwork by Quinton Hoover. Hoover was a foundational artist for the game, known for a fluid, expressive style that defined the visual language of Magic's first few years. In the context of Fifth Edition, which served as a comprehensive core set meant to consolidate the game's rules and card pool, this reprint maintained the card's original mechanical intent while presenting it with the updated layout and design standards of the mid-nineties.
