Malakir Blood-Priest // Malakir Blood-Priest

Malakir Blood-Priest was released in 2020 as part of the Zendikar Rising Art Series, a collection of cards featuring full-art illustrations without game text. This series was designed to highlight the high-fantasy aesthetic of the plane of Zendikar, focusing on the dark, vampiric themes prevalent in the Malakir region. The cards were distributed as special inserts in collector booster packs, intended for collectors who appreciate the visual artistry of the game.

The illustration for this specific card was crafted by the artist Magali Villeneuve, who is renowned for her emotive and detailed fantasy portraiture. Villeneuve sought to capture the regal yet predatory nature of the Zendikar vampires, emphasizing a somber, atmospheric palette that distinguishes the Blood-Priest as a figure of authority and malice. Within the community, these art cards are regarded as aesthetic tributes to the game's world-building rather than functional components of play.
