Plains // Plains

The Zendikar Rising Art Series was released in 2020 as a specialty product for Magic: The Gathering, designed to showcase the high-fantasy landscape illustrations that define the game's aesthetic. These cards were produced as part of a collectible subset found in Set Boosters, highlighting the work of various artists who contributed to the Zendikar Rising expansion. The series intentionally excluded game-functional text in favor of full-art displays, allowing the player to focus entirely on the evocative, adventure-themed world-building that the Zendikar plane is known for.

This specific card, featuring the Plains landscape, represents the foundational artistic direction of the set, which emphasizes the vast, untamed nature of the Zendikar environment. The illustration was created to evoke a sense of exploration, utilizing the signature vibrant color palettes and epic scale typical of Wizards of the Coast's contemporary art direction. Upon release, these art cards were well-received by collectors who sought to appreciate the visual storytelling of the game outside of the standard play-focused card frames.
