Where it came from
Mana Abundance was released as part of the 2021 Mystery Booster Playtest Cards, a unique set distributed exclusively at select gaming conventions. These cards were designed by Wizards of the Coast to mimic the aesthetic of internal playtest documents, featuring minimalist card frames and placeholder artwork that emphasizes mechanical exploration over finalized production polish.
The card was conceived as a lighthearted, high-variance design intended to experiment with resource acceleration mechanics within the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem. Because these cards were never intended for wide release or tournament legality, they are regarded by collectors as experimental artifacts that offer a rare glimpse into the design iteration process of the development team.
