Where it came from
Mana Abundance was released in 2019 as part of a unique set of 'Playtest Cards' included in the Mystery Booster product line. These cards were designed by Wizards of the Coast developers as experimental, high-concept designs that were not intended for standard tournament legality. They were physically inserted into booster packs to mimic the aesthetic of internal playtest materials, featuring simple white borders, placeholder-style typography, and a distinct lack of traditional card art.
The design of the card reflects the whimsical and often chaotic nature of the R&D playtest environment. The card features a mechanical effect intended to explore unconventional ways to manipulate mana resources within the Magic: The Gathering rules framework. Because these cards were produced in limited quantities as a meta-commentary on the game's development process, they have become significant curiosities for collectors interested in the evolution of game design and the internal artifacts of the company.
