Time Sidewalk

Time Sidewalk was released in 2021 as part of the Mystery Booster: Convention Edition, a set designed by Wizards of the Coast to celebrate the chaotic and experimental history of Magic: The Gathering. These cards, known as Playtest Cards, feature a distinct aesthetic resembling the internal design documents and temporary mock-ups used by developers during the early stages of card creation. The intentionally stark, black-and-white drafting style is meant to evoke the feeling of a game being built in real-time, stripping away the polished artwork of standard releases in favor of raw mechanics.

The card itself represents a design experiment that plays with the fundamental structure of the game, allowing players to manipulate the order of turns in a way that deviates from official rules. As a Playtest Card, it was never intended for standard tournament play, serving instead as a novelty item for cube environments and casual draft formats. It was received by the community as a whimsical piece of design history, offering players a rare look at the iterative, sometimes erratic nature of the game’s development process.
