Where it came from
Mangara of Corondor was originally printed in the 2006 Magic: The Gathering set Mirage as a legendary creature representing a powerful mage from the plane of Dominaria. The character serves as a key figure in the Mirage block's storyline, known for his role in the complex political and magical conflict involving the desert nation of Zhalfir. When the card was reimagined for the 2018 set Battlebond, it was selected to showcase the series' focus on legendary characters and multiplayer dynamics, fitting into a set designed specifically for Two-Headed Giant gameplay.
The art for this version was commissioned to reflect the updated aesthetic standards of modern Magic: The Gathering while honoring the character's traditional appearance as a wise, exiled mystic. The design emphasizes his historical ability to exile permanents, which remains a signature mechanic for the character. Upon its release in Battlebond, the card was well-received by fans of Commander and casual formats, who appreciated the accessibility of this new printing for decks centered around legendary creatures and political utility.
