Where it came from
Mathemagics was released in 2021 as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed to reflect the theme of the Quandrix College, one of the five faculties of Strixhaven University, which focuses on the intersection of mathematics and nature. Mechanically, the card serves as a utility piece intended to represent the fluid, logic-based spellcasting practiced by the college's mages.
The artwork for Mathemagics was created by illustrator Randy Vargas. In keeping with the aesthetic of the set, the illustration employs a vibrant, scholarly visual language, blending geometric patterns with organic elements to capture the feeling of magical theory in practice. Upon release, the card was received as a flavorful addition to the set, appreciated by players for its thematic consistency with the Quandrix identity.
