Where it came from
Mathemagics is a promotional printing of a card featured in the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion for Magic: The Gathering, released in 2021. The set was designed around the theme of a magical university, with the 'Secrets of Strixhaven' promotional cards serving as alternate-art versions intended to showcase the aesthetic traditions of the set's five distinct colleges.
The card features art by Magali Villeneuve, a celebrated illustrator in the fantasy gaming space known for her atmospheric and character-focused style. Her work on this piece was intended to capture the rigorous, academic nature of the Quantrix college, emphasizing the intersection of abstract geometric magic and traditional scholarly pursuits. It was distributed as a participation reward or promotional inclusion, aimed at rewarding players for engaging with the Strixhaven limited environment.
