Meekstone

Meekstone was originally released in the 1993 Alpha set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game, created by Richard Garfield and published by Wizards of the Coast. It was designed as an artifact that slows the pace of the game by tapping creatures with power greater than two, forcing players to carefully manage their board state. The card became a staple of early control decks, valued for its ability to neutralize aggressive strategies through a simple, elegant rules text that mirrored the game's broader emphasis on strategic resource management.

The International Collectors' Edition, or CE, was released in 1993 as a non-tournament-legal boxed set intended to showcase the game's art and provide collectors with a complete set of cards. While the cards retain the iconic original illustrations by Dameon Willich, they are distinguished by square corners and gold-foil backing, which differentiates them from their tournament-legal counterparts. The set was met with initial mixed reception due to its inability to be used in sanctioned play, though it is now highly regarded by collectors for its preservation of the early game's aesthetic and historical design legacy.
