Where it came from
Sisay was released in 2022 as part of the Unfinity expansion for Magic: The Gathering, a set designed to blend the game's mechanics with space-age science fiction themes. As a 'Meet and Greet' promotional card, this specific version was distributed through organized play events and specialized Wizards of the Coast initiatives, serving as a distinct variant from the standard set-printed card. These promotional versions often feature unique foiling treatments or alternate artwork, created to incentivize community engagement and reward long-term players within the tabletop ecosystem.
The character Sisay is a legacy figure in the game's lore, originally hailing from the Weatherlight Saga. The Unfinity aesthetic, spearheaded by the Wizards of the Coast creative team, reimagined classic characters through a whimsical, retro-futuristic lens. By placing Sisay within this carnival-themed interstellar context, the design team aimed to balance the game's deep narrative history with the lighthearted, experimental nature of the 'Un' series. While the set received mixed reviews for its integration of legal-for-play cards, the art direction was widely praised for its vibrant color palette and technical execution.
