Provenance

Where it came from

Mind Twist was originally released in the 1993 Alpha set as a powerful discard spell, quickly becoming infamous for its ability to dismantle an opponent's hand. Designed by Richard Garfield, the card was intended to explore the aggressive side of black mana's hand-disruption mechanics. Its original illustration by Christopher Rush became iconic, capturing the psychological toll of the spell through a striking, surreal visual style that defined the aesthetic of early Magic: The Gathering.

The 30th Anniversary Edition, released in 2022, serves as a non-tournament-legal commemorative celebration of the game's history. This specific version, numbered 112, features the classic card frame and Rush's original artwork, intended to evoke the nostalgia of the 1993 debut for long-term collectors. While the set received polarized reactions from the community regarding its distribution model and lack of legality in sanctioned play, it remains a significant item for those documenting the evolution and legacy of the game's most influential cards.
