Mind Twist

Mind Twist was originally issued as part of the Alpha and Beta sets of Magic: The Gathering in 1993, designed by Richard Garfield as a powerful discard spell. The specific version known as Summer Magic, or Edgar, was printed in 1994 as a limited correction set intended to fix various errors found in the earlier Revised Edition. Due to a series of distribution mishaps and printing issues, the majority of the Summer Magic run was recalled and destroyed, leaving only a tiny fraction of the cards to enter private collections, which has rendered this version exceptionally rare.

The artwork for Mind Twist was created by artist Christopher Rush, who was instrumental in defining the visual language of early Magic: The Gathering. Rush aimed for a dark, surreal aesthetic that matched the game's high-fantasy themes, depicting a swirling, chaotic psychic assault. While the card mechanics were later restricted in competitive play due to their disruptive impact on game balance, the Summer Magic print remains a significant historical artifact of the game's volatile early production era and is highly sought after for its distinct color saturation and scarcity.
