Mind Twist was originally released in the 1993 Alpha set as a powerful discard spell that quickly became infamous for its ability to dismantle an opponent's hand. By the time the Amonkhet Invocations series was released in 2017, the card had long since been restricted or banned in various formats due to its sheer efficiency.

The Amonkhet Invocations version was designed as a premium, artistic reimagining of classic cards, utilizing a distinct Egyptian-inspired aesthetic to align with the overarching theme of the Amonkhet expansion. Illustrated by Titus Lunter, the piece features the stark, hieroglyphic-influenced framing and ornate border treatment characteristic of the Masterpiece Series. While the design was intended to offer a high-end visual experience for collectors, it received a polarizing reception from the community, with many players noting that the unique, vertical text layout proved difficult to read during gameplay.
