Provenance

Where it came from

The Minotaurs card serves as a front card for the Jumpstart set, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2020. This innovative product was designed to facilitate a quick-play format where players shuffle two randomized packs together to create a functional deck, bypassing the need for traditional deck construction. The front card acts as a deck identifier, displayed on the outside of the packaging to denote the specific theme contained within the sealed pack.

The illustration was crafted to evoke the aggressive and tribal nature of Minotaur creatures within the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. By using bold, thematic artwork, the design team aimed to provide an immediate visual cue for players regarding the red-aligned, creature-heavy strategy of the deck. Like other cards in the Jumpstart series, this piece emphasizes immediate readability and iconic fantasy aesthetic to distinguish the various themes available to players.
