Where it came from
Tree-Hugging is a front card from the Jumpstart set, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2020. This unique product was designed to facilitate a quick-start gameplay experience where players combine two 20-card packs to form a ready-to-play deck. The front card serves as a thematic identifier, pinned to the top of each pack to clearly display the deck's archetype, which in this case focuses on the green mana identity of nature and forest-based growth.
The artwork for the card was created by illustrators tasked with evoking the specific aesthetic of the Jumpstart themes, which blend traditional Magic: The Gathering fantasy tropes with lighthearted, colorful motifs. As a foundational component of the product, the design emphasizes clarity and accessibility, ensuring that players immediately grasp the mechanical synergy of the deck they are about to play. The set was generally well-received for its ingenuity in streamlining deck construction and introducing new players to the game’s mechanics.
