Provenance

Where it came from

The Spirits front card acts as a deck identifier for one of the tribal themes introduced in the 2020 Magic: The Gathering set Jumpstart. The set was engineered as a unique, self-contained play experience where players combine two semi-randomized 20-card packs to create a full deck for immediate gameplay. This design prioritizes accessibility and replayability, moving away from traditional booster draft structures to encourage rapid, theme-based matchups.

The aesthetic of the Spirits theme centers on the ethereal, spectral imagery characteristic of the game's long-standing depiction of ghost-like creatures. As a front card, it serves a functional utility, clearly labeling the contents of the sealed pack to assist in the set's intended 'shuffle and play' mechanics. It reflects the broader design philosophy of the series, which utilizes clear, thematic iconography to help players quickly identify the synergies present in their chosen pair of packs.
