Where it came from
Mishra's Factory was originally introduced in the 1994 Antiquities expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As part of a set centered on the lore of the brothers Urza and Mishra, the card represented a functional, artifact-based land that could animate into an assembly worker to participate in combat. This mechanical flexibility made it a staple in competitive play, particularly for decks requiring colorless mana sources that could also provide offensive pressure.
The Masters 25 version, released in 2018, features updated artwork by Franz Vohwinkel. While the original card relied on Christopher Rush’s iconic illustration, Vohwinkel’s take provides a more modern, high-definition aesthetic while maintaining the card's historical identity as a pivotal utility land. The Masters 25 printing was designed to celebrate the history of the game, bringing essential cards from various eras into a single, cohesive set for both collectors and drafters.
